Serving html from a self-hosted service?

Topics: Web Api

Running the below

      [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/start")]
        public HttpResponseMessage StartPage()
        {
            var response = new HttpResponseMessage();
            response.Content = new StringContent(System.IO.File.ReadAllText(_startpage));

            response.Content.Headers.ContentType = new MediaTypeHeaderValue("text/html");
            return response;
        }

Works fine if hosting in IIS or the development server.

When I try to do the same thing in a self hosting service, I get an error.  After enabling wcf tracing, I see that I am getting "Type 'System.Net.Http.StringContent' cannot be serialized. ", ONLY when self hosted

Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong - I'm new to web stuff, so it's likely that I'm making some silly mistake!

Apologies,  on closer inspection I discovered my "non working" project was actually using webHttpBinding, rather than just httpBinding.
